A Study on Marriage Satisfaction by Spouse’s Appearance Satisfaction and BMI of Married women

This study attempted to analyze the features affecting satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance and determine marriage satisfaction by satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance and BMI with 328 married women. The results found the following: First, in terms of satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance, the respondents were mostly satisfied. Regarding satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance by features, BMI, age, marriage duration and number of children had a significant effect on satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance while gross household monthly income had no influence. Second, according to a factor analysis of marriage satisfaction, three factors were found: Satisfaction-happiness, affection-interest and communication. Third, analysis of marriage satisfaction by satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance revealed that the highly satisfied group was high in all three factors. Therefore, it is necessary to understand spouse preference and have his preferred look to maintain a happy married life. A spouse’s BMI had no significant effect on marriage satisfaction. However, BMI was a critical factor in satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance. In the case of being overweight or obese, there should be efforts for weight loss. Fourth, satisfaction with a spouse’s appearance had significant effect in all factors of marriage satisfaction, and a spouse’s BMI revealed significant influence on appearance satisfaction, satisfaction-happiness and affection-interest. In other words, appearance care is essential for married men as well as married women. The said results would be helpful in marketing such as beauty care and image making for married men.
