On the Narcissistic Compensation Psychology and American Political Publicity Culture Shown in Trump Phenomenon

In the American political history, the democratic ideas of freedom and equality brought out a dichotomized tendency of conservatism and liberalism, and the Republican and Democratic Party have witnessed their advance and retreat around red-hot issues according to the circumstances of the times. However, in 2016 presidential election, Trump, a front-runner of the GOP, was criticized for his poor knowledge and personality as a commander-in-chief even in his party, but became the 45th president of America. This paper aims to introduce Trump phenomenon and illuminate its reason and lesson. Along the way, I insist that his supporters’ narcissistic compensation psychology and American political publicity culture influenced the election in the name of superficial conservatism. It is concluded that voters’ impulsive judgment could result from politicians’ spiteful remark and the slanted angle of media because they are too concerned about their individual situations, which is not covered by other researchers in Korea.
