The Development of the Republic of Korea and New Zealand as International Actors and Their First Bilateral Contacts

  • 7

The 20 century is considered to be a period of significant transformation within the world system of international relations. It is the period which saw Two World Wars and a Cold War , the formation of the Integrated Economic Area. It is also a period when the leaders of many countries realized the necessity of cooperation in the fields of world security, environmental protection and human health on a national and international scale. International and domestic power structures have grown into more complicated open flexible systems where interactions between different nations had to become more intensive. The process of transformation enveloped the Asia Pacific Region in such a way that it is believed to be the most prosperous region in the world since the middle of the 20th century. It has become one of the largest world centers in which significant political and economic events took place, and this compelled the states of the region to open up to new possibilities for the development of their bilateral and multilateral contacts. Such a situation stimulated New Zealand and South Korea to strengthen their positions on the international stage by reforming domestic and foreign policies as they continue to show the importance of cooperation in different areas.
