Using the model of a two-dimensional depth integrated type, a numerical experiment was carried out to clarify the physical mechanism of outbreak of red tides in Jinhae Bay. Based on the fact that the red tide phenomena was closely related to the upwelling of oxygen deficient water masses, the change of flow structure and pollutant dispersion according to given wind conditions was investigated. The variation of flow accoding to wind conditions was quite large in the small inner bays while it hardly changed in Kaduck-sudo and fast flowing areas. Considering the fact that most of the red tides in Jinhae Bay have been occurred in these small bays, this suggests that wind action plays an important role in the outbreak of red tides. If the wind speed increases, the pollutant in Masan Bay is more effectively dispersed while the pollutant in Hangam Bay is poorly dispersed The flows in the small inner bays and the west part of Jinhae Bay were suppressed by the northerly or easterly winds and therefore the red tide is more likely to occur in these wind systems. The flows of Masan Bay had a minor effect on the entire flow structure of Jinhae Bay and at the same time it is judged to influence as far as Jinhae Hang or Hangam Bay.
