The catch fluctuation and sea condition of fishing ground of Argentine shortfin squid, Illex argentinus was analyzed on the basis of data on catch and effort statistics from the Korean squid jigging fishery in the southwestern Atlantic ocean. The results obtained are summerized as follows: 1. The range of surface water temperature in the southwestern squid fishing ground was from 12.8℃ to 14.9℃ in summer, from 7.2℃ to 14.0℃ in autumn and from 6.6℃ to 8.8℃ in the end period of fishing. 2. Korean squid jigging fishery for Argentine shortfin squid conducted fishing activities from December or January to July or August. But in 1992 fishing activities were carried out from January to June. Monthly variation of catch per unit effort (CPUE. ㎏/line-day) suggested that the main fishing season was from March to May with a peak of abundance in March. 3. The range of optimum water temperature for the squid fishing was eastimated from 7.2℃ to 13.0℃. The variation of catch by the water temperature was low catch in high and low water temperature. 4. The center of fishing grounds of squid jigging fishery was formed at Lat, 45˚00 S~46˚00 S, Long. 60˚00 W~61˚00 W in summer. In autumn, the center of fishing ground was formed at Lat. 48˚00 S~50˚00 S, Long. 59˚00 W~61˚00 W of the area of continental shelf in the vicinity of Falkland. In winter, the center of fishing grounds were moved from south fishing ground to northeast fishing ground (Lat. 43˚00 S~44˚00 S, Long. 57˚00 W~59˚00 W).
