In order to investigate the change on fishing ability of tuna long line, the fishing data, by the long line of which lower branch line was made of Nylon braded rope and the other parts were done Nylon monofilament, used 4,486 times by nine vessels during 41 Months from May 1997 to Oct 2000, in the equatorial region of pacific ocean were collected and analyzed. The analysis produced the results as follows; 1) The mean catch by a fishing operation, the mean number of fishes caught by a fishing operation, the mean weight of fishes caught and the mean number of fishes caught by 100 pieces of hooks were 1,055kg, 31.9kg, 33.1kg, and 1.3, respectively. 2) According to region, the mean catch by a fishing operation was 1,171kg in Region I (L 0~Sl0°, Long. 180~W160°) and 816kg in Region V (L 0~N10°, Long. W140~W120°). 3) The division in fish caught by the long line gave that bigeye tuna was 61.1%, yellowfin tuna was 29.6%, and the other fishes were 9.3%. 4) A catch of bigeye tuna, most expensive in tunas, weighed 40kg or more, and small highly in east Region from W160°.
