Suicide Attempts by Family Members and Peers and Their Impact on Suicidal Ideation among Adolescents:

가족과 동료의 자살시도는 자살생존자의 자살생각에 부정적인 영향을 미친다. OECD 국가중 가장 높은 자살률을 보이고 있는 한국에서, 사회적 관계 내의 자살시도에 노출되는 것은 자살과 관련된 심각한 요인이 될 수 있다. 본 연구는 가족과 동료가 시도하는 자살시도가 청소년의 자살 생각에 미치는 영향을 조사하였고, 가족과 동료의 자살시도와 청소년 자살생존자의 자살생각 사이에서 우울감의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 서울특별시와 인천광역시의 6개 학군에서 무작위로 선정된 6개 중학교 중 참여에 동의한 5개 학교의 549명의 데이터를 분석하였다. 중다 회귀분석과 Z 매개효과 검증을 사용하였다. 연구 결과, 가족과 동료의 자살시도는 통계적으로 유의하게 청소년의 자살생각에 영향을 미쳤으며 (p=.001), 우울감의 부분매개효과가 발견되었다. 즉, 자살시도에 대한 노출이 우울감을 매개하지 않고 직접적으로 청소년의 자살생각에 미치는 영향이 부분적으로 존재 하였다. 이러한 발견은 청소년에게 중요한 타자의 자살시도에 노출되었을 때 우울감을 느끼는 여부와 관계 없이 청소년 자살생존자의 자살생각에 대해 특별한 관심과 개입이 주어져야 함을 함의한다.

Impact of suicide attempts by family members or peers negatively affects suicidal ideation among survivors. In South Korea, where its suicide rate is the highest among OECD countries, exposure to suicide attempts in relationships may be a serious factor associated with suicide. This study examined the impact of suicide attempts by family members and peers on survivors’ suicidal ideation, and the mediating effect of depressive mood in the relationship between suicide attempts by family members and peers and suicidal ideation among adolescents. Data were analyzed which was collected through a survey of a total of 549 students from five middle schools that agreed to participated out of six schools randomly selected from 6 school districts of the Seoul and Inchon Metropolitan areas. Multiple linear regression and Z mediation test analyses were used for analysis. The results show that exposure to suicide attempts by family members and peers had a significant effect on suicidal ideation (p=.001), and that there found a partial mediating effect of depressive mood was observed, that is, there is the direct impact of exposure to suicide attempts on suicidal ideation without being mediated by depressive mood. These findings suggest that special attention needs to be given to adolescents who were exposed to significant other’s suicidal attempts regardless of having depressive mood.
