In order to formulate the fostering plans and develop the new ways of living, the tendencies of production in the fishery products in Yosu area and the country from 1991 to 1996 were investigated. Production of processed fishery commodities in the whole country from 1991 to 1996 was 1,668,675 M/T, which was the level of 50.9% of the total fish catches. The major marine processed products were frozen fish and the average amount of production 1,248,233 M/T, occupying 74.8% of the total commodity. They were followed by seaweeds and ground fish meat, which account for 6.5% and 6.3% of the total production, respectively. The amount of handled frozen fishery products decreased year by year, on the contrary, of prototype frozen fishery products increased. The ratio of regional production of processed fishery commodities was as follows; Busan 31.2%, Gyeongnam 17.5%, Gangwon 14.5%, and Jeonnam 13.3% of the total amount in 1996, respectively. The average amount of processed marine products in Jeonnam area from 1991 to 1996 was 160,419 M/T, which was the the level of 9.6% of the whole country. Among the marine products, seaweed was the most important, occupying 62.2% of the total amount in Jeonnam area. They were followed by frozen fish, canned, fermented products occupying, 22.6%, 5.1%, 2.6% of the total amount of commodity, respectively. The average amount of processed fishery commodities in Yosu area from 1993 to 1996 was 23,058 M/T, occupying 1.4% of the whole country and 14.4% of the Jeonnam area. The major processed fishery product was frozen fish, which was 84.8% of the total production in Yosu area. The amount of processed fishery commodities decreased and the scale was scanty in recent years. Accordingly, the technical development of marine processing for high utilization shuold be necessary by the academic and business world, research institute, and the government.
