In order to investigate the oceanic condition in the south coastal waters of Korea, oceanographic observation on the south coastal waters were carried out by the trainingship of Yosu university on May in 1997 and 1998. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. The sea water temperature, salinity, density and dissolved oxygen of surface layer was from 15.0℃ to 18.5℃, from 33.6‰ to 34.4‰, from 24.0 to 25.5 and from 2.0 ㎎/ l to 11.0 mg/ l respectively, but these of the bottom water were from 14.0℃ to 16.0℃, from 33.0‰ to 34.8‰, from 24.5 to 25.5 and from 3.0 ㎎/ l to 6.5 ㎎/ l. 2. In generally, the water temperature in the coastal water regions was higher than oceanic water regions, but salinity, density and dissolved oxygen was lower than oceanic water regions. The water temperature, salinity and density appeared the sea condition characteristics of spring, and so the water temperature and salinity was in the making the horizontal distribution in the coastal water regions, and vertical mixing were made between surface and bottom in the oceanic water regions and dissolved oxygen was nearly homogenous in the sea area. 3. The chrolophyll-a in the south coatal water of Korea varied largly each year, and chlorophyll-a controlled by nutrients concentration in the coastal water regions was more than oceanic water regions and was distributed mainly between surface and 20m layer. 4. In the south coastal water expansion of coastal water toward oceanic water regions took place mainly at Yosu bay outside and Sori Is. westside, while inflow of oceanic water regions water toward coastal water regions was formed mainly at the adjacent sea of Kumun Is., outside of Sori Is. and Yogji Is.
