To study the distribution of ichthyoplankton in the Kamak bay of Yosu, ichthyoplankton were sampled 4 times(August 1997, November 1997, February 1998 and May 1998). Three species of fish eggs and fourteen species of fish larvae were identified. Among fish eggs, Leiognathus nuchalis eggs were the dominant species comprising 97.0% of total fish eggs collected, followed by Engraulis japonicus 1.0% and Konosirus punctatus occupied below 0.4% respectively, while 1.4% were unidentified. Fourteen taxa of pelagic larvae were collected. Among then 11 taxa were identified to the species level, and 3 taxa to the genus level. Most larval fish species were found in August(9 species). The domninant species was Gobiidae spp. accounting for 36.2% of the total larvae and followed by Chaenogobius castaneus (16.1%). Other major species were Leiognathus nuchalis(15.0%), Pholis fangi(8.4%), Pholis nebulosa(7.3%) and Parablennius yatabei(6.0%). These 6 taxa constituted 89.0% of the total larvae collected. The larval fish species collected in this study area were comprising the coastal sedentary species(Gobiidae, Hexagrammos otakii, Sebastes spp. and so on), and the warm water species(Auxis spp.) which were appearing by warm water current flowing neat the coastal area of Cheju Island.
