Twenty eight species of pufferfishes(Family Tetraodontidae) have been examined to find their generic characters based on iaw bone and suspensorium characters of specimens which were collected at the 20 localities along the coast of Korea from March,1991 to March,1994. The jaw bone of pufferfishes was conisted of premaxillary, maxillary, dentary, articular and angular except supramaxillary. The dentary was somewhat squariss and articulated by fibrous tissue with the articular, which was like sharp beak instead of haring teeth on it. Most genera of the Family Teraodontidae were that their quadrate was articulated dorsally with the endopterygoid, but the quadrate of the Canthingaster was articulated with the metapterygoid and not articulated with the endopterygoid. The interopercle was thin, a long rod form and with a small ventral flange ventromedially, which underlay the preopercle.
