목포 고하도 주변의 조류 특성

Tidal currents around Koha is. of Mokph in the southwestern coast of Korea

Tidal currents observations were carried out around Koha Is. of Mokpo. southwestern coast of Korea at spring tide and neap tide 1995. Scalar mean velocities of the tidal currents are 12.2~17.6 cm/s at neap tide and 12.5~18.7 cm/s at spring tide respectively. Tide residual currents at 0m, 5m and 10m depth are NNE 5~9 cm/s at spring tide. At neap tide, however tide residual currents at 0m and 5m depth flow to the opposite direction, SSW 4~9 cm/s. Flood currents flow north~northeast and ebb currents flow south~southwest around Koha Is.. Semi-diurnal components predominate over all of the observed tidal currents and those tidal ellipses show the shape of a prominent to-and-fro motion. The traveling distance of the watermass around Koha Is., which are moved by the tidal mean residual currents during one day are estimated at 5.7km NNE.
