To test the efficacy of a new acid treatment, the ratio of the dead cell of Porphyra, Enteromopha and Capsosiphon thalli, the coming-off ratio of adhesive diatoms from Porphyra thalli, the survival ratio of red rots in Porphyra thalli, the viable cell count of Porphyra thalli, the rate of length to width of Porphyra thalli and the neutralization test of 1ℓ used acid treatments were performed with the two existing treatments and the inorganic acid as control through October into the next March from 1999 and 2000 Porphyra year at two Porphyra farms in Jeonnam and in the laboratory. The results showed that the ratio of the dead cell of Enteromopha and Capsosiphon thalli of the new acid treatment was higher effective than the two existing acid treatments. The ratio of diatoms coming-off from Porphyra thalli of the new treatment was somewhat higher than the two existing treatments. The amount of NaOH needed for neutralizing 1ℓ used acid treatment of the new treatment was three-fold higher than the two existing treatments.
