A basic breeding study on red rot disease-resistant cultivar of porphyra yezoensis

The red rot disease-resistant experiment using the wild-, red-, green- and two recombinant wild-types by crossing between red- and green-type pigmentation mutant of Porphyra yezoensis was performed as a part of the disease-resistant cuiltivar breeding. The number of lesions infected with red rot disease of the green-type was smaller than the red-and wild-type, and that of the recombinant wild-type, ZGRW, was smaller than the recombinant wild-type, ZRGW, and the wild-type, hence, it suggests that the ZGRW was favorable variety concerning the resistance red rot disease. Moreover, since there were difference between the two recombinant wild-types concerning the red rot disease-resistance of gametophytic thalli, it might be suggest that this character was transmitted according by the cytoplasmic inheritance manner.
