The Operating Strategy for Private Security officer in Multipurpose Facility:

한국과 영국에서 많은 국민들은 경찰 자원이 부족으로 인하여, 국민들 스스로가 범죄를 예방할 필요가 있다고 느끼고 있다. 경찰은 또한 최근 범죄예방활동과 범죄에 대한 두려움을 줄이는 것에 대한 국민들의 요구를 충족시키기에는 한계에 도달했다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 국민들의 요구에 부응하기 위해서 민간경비 회사들은 쇼핑몰, 병원, 주거 단지 등의 대형 사적 공간에서 활발한 활동을 하고 있다. 특히, 쇼핑몰의 보안 요원들은 범죄 예방과 반사회적 행동을 다루는 데 있어서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 본 연구는 양 국가의 보안 요원들이 반사회적 행동이나 범죄예방을 위하여 어떻게 근무하고 문제가 일어났을 시에 어떻게대처하는지에 대하여 알아 볼 것이다. 본 연구는 이러한 것들을 알아보기 위하여 질적연구를 실시하였으며, 사례연구를 기반으로 심층 면담, 참여 관찰을하였다. 그 결과, 양 국가에서는 범죄예방을 위한 서로 다른 전략을 갖고 있었다. 하지만 CCTV와 같은 보안 장비, 보안요원의 추가 증원 및 교육 과 같은 것들은 더 필요하다고 공통적으로 논의되고 있다.

Increasingly in both South Korea and the United Kingdom, the public themselves feel a need to prevent from crimes because of declining police resources. Police is finding it difficult to meet the demands of the public in terms of crime and fear of crime prevention and the provision of a visible uniformed presence. To better respond to these needs private security firms have filled the gap in large private spaces such as shopping malls, hospital, residential complexes. Particularly, security officers at shopping mall also have a vital role in crime prevention and dealing with anti-social behaviours. This study presents the comparative study of the contribution of private security in private spaces in the two countries. This study will also investigate how the policing agents actually do on a day-to-day to deal with anti-social behaviours and crime in two different sites. In order to find out these issues, this study adopted qualitative research methods using in-depth interviews, observations and documentary research. As a result, the two case study sites have some different working strategy but both sites need more investment in increasing number of security officers, up to dated CCTV cameras, equipment and education.
