A Study on Marine Special Economic Zones in Japan and China

The primary object of this study is to introduce marine special economic zones in Japan and China, therefore, we try to find and suggest implications for Korea s future marine industry development. Recently, the Korea Marine Special Economic Acts passed through the plenary session on May, 2016, thus these laws are expected to be the starting point for Korean marine industrial development. Japan and china began to operate their marine special economic zones in Nagasaki and Zhoushan and some positive results due to marine special economic zones are appearing at this point. For example, the amount of total production is increasing and also the number of employees are increasing in both countries. Japan and China s governments are supporting the marine special economic zones by the various aspects including the tax system, financial support, easing regulations, and so on. Through operating the marine special economic zones for about 4 years, they both have the know-how for successful marine special economic zones thus Korea should benchmark their knowledges and experiences for future s new successful Korean type s marine special economic zone.
