We sought to gain insights into the prevalence and associated risk factors of post-disaster alcohol use disorders (AUDs). Expo-sure to disasters leads to population-level increases in alcohol use but little increase in the incidence of AUDs. Studies have demonstrated that several risk factors such as disaster related traumatic experiences, post-disaster stressors, younger age, low economic status, single marital status, prior traumatic history, prior history of AUDs, in conjunction with disaster exposure, tends to be associated with increased AUDs. Findings from studies of many disasters in recent decades have accumulated considerable knowledge to guide mental health interventions in disaster settings. We reviewed different types of evidence based therapies such as Brief intervention, Internet-based intervention, Seeking Safety therapy-a manualized psychotherapy, exposure therapy, concurrent naltrexone and prolonged exposure therapy for patients with comorbid Alcohol Dependence and Post traumatic Stress Disorder. The data was promising and suggested the need for further evaluation.
