This paper aimed to provide the basic data on the necessity of education related to cosmetics in schools as well as to secure data on the makeup culture among teenagers by identifying the actual usage of cosmetics by students in elementary, middle and high schools. The results of the study are presented below. For basic care products used by students, ‘lotion’ accounted for the highest ratio at 79.7%. The ratio of students using makeup products was higher than that of students who did not use makeup products. The reason for using makeup ‘For looking more beautiful’ showed the highest ratio, 45.9%, and the reason for not using makeup as ‘Because it’s tiresome’ had the highest ratio, 18.6%. The grade of starting makeup use was ‘from elementary school’, which response showed the highest ratio of 52% among the respondents using makeup. The frequency of makeup use was once or twice a week (37%), the highest ratio among frequency responses. The situations for makeup were ‘All the time’ (30.6%), the highest ratio in the situations for makeup use. Furthermore, the makeup products showing the highest ratio were ‘BB and CC Cream’ (46.8%) for facial expression, ‘Tint’ (70.6%) for lips and ‘Eyeliner’ (58.1%) for eyes. In accordance with the analysis results, the age of starting makeup use significantly dropped as the age for makeup was expanded to elementary school students. The application of cosmetic products included makeup for skin, lips and eyes as well as basic care products such as toner and lotion. In conclusion, it is estimated that the number of students in elementary, middle and high schools using makeup products will continue to increase. Accordingly, it is necessary to prepare educational programs on makeup to build the appropriate awareness of it and to more extensively investigate issues related to makeup.
