The Influences of News Anchor Image on News Selection : A comparison of the four total TV programming companies

This research is an analysis of the influences of news anchor image on the selection of the news among adults 20 years old or older. The following is a summary of the results of the proceeding with a study of 200 subjects: First, with regard to the image of the anchor, the delivery ability of the anchor was the highest with the expertise of the anchor, the reliability of the anchor, the style of the anchor, and the humanity of the anchor appearing in that order. The news selection appeared as being somewhat on the high side. Second, with regard to the anchor images and the selections of the news, JTBC was the highest. MBN, Channel A, and TV Chosun appeared in that order following. Third, the delivery ability of the anchor, the reliability of the anchor, the expertise of the anchor, and the humanity of the anchor had positive (+) influences on news selection. In summarizing these results, regarding the images of the anchors and the selection of news among all total TV programming, differences were shown between each broadcasting company. The images of the anchors had a very high degree of influence on news selection. Also, it appeared that the influences of news anchor image on news selection differed regarding each broadcasting company. As a result, in order to enhance news selection, JTBC must consider anchor reliability as being the most important, MBN the humanity of the anchor, Channel A the expertise of the anchor and the humanity of the anchor, and TV Chosun the reliability of the anchor.
