A Validity Study of the Craniovertebral Angle Measurement on Forward Head Posture

In evaluating Forward Head Posture (FHP), the X-ray CV angle (Craniovertebral angle) and Angle of cervical curve are generally used. This study was carried out to examine the difference among the X-ray CV angle, X-ray cervical vertebral curve angle and the CV angle by exterior photo measurement which has frequently been used in the clinic. X-ray films of 31 subjects in FHP were used in this study. The mean of the X-ray CV angle was 56.78° while that of the CV angle was 57.66° and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was 0.966 (p>0.05). In validating the angle of the cervical curve and the CV angle, the mean of the angle of the cervical curve in the males was 29.84° while that of the CV angle was 54.21° and (r) was 0.831 (p<0.05). The mean of the angle of the cervical curve in the females was 36.69° while that of the CV angle was 60.54° and (r) was 0.848, which were significant (p<0.05). In conclusion, this study shows that CV angle would reliably be used to measure the FHP.
