A Study on the Effects of Chiropractic Thoracic Spine Manipulation on Lung Capacity

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of chiropractic spinal manipulation on lung capacity. There were 70 participants divided in two groups; manipulation group (n=35) and impulse gun group (n=35). The Slow Vital Capacity (SVC), Force Vital Capacity (FVC), Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second (FEV1), Maximal Voluntary Ventilation (MVV), Tidal Volume (TV) were measured using a spirometer. All the data was collected and statistically analyzed. There was significant difference in SVC improvement for both groups (p<0.05). Also, There was significant difference in FVC, FEV1, MVV, and TV improvement for both groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, chiropractic spinal manipulation and impulse gun treatments improves the lung capacity and there is no significant difference between two groups.
