Objectives : Enneagram is a model of human personality used as a typology of nine interconnected personality types. Methods : In this study, the types of ennegram in alcohol dependents and the effects of the typology on alcohol dependence were analyzed. This study was designed as retrospective chart review. At first, we investigated 182 patients who participated in the ‘enneagram program’ in our hospital from January, 2010 to Decem-ber, 2011. Finally, only 118 patients were analyzed dut to missing data. The socioeconomic data and onset age, drinking pat-terns, MMPI profiles, NAST (national alcoholism screening test), BDI (Beck depression inventory), and BAI (Beck anxiety inventory) were collected. Results : Among the enneagram typology, type 9, 1, and 4 were more frequent and type 3 was un-usual. The onset age, the scores of NAST, BDI, and BAI were not significantly different between the enneagram types. However, Pa, Sc, and Si of MMPI were significantly different among the three enneagram centers(feeling, thinking and instinctive). Patients showing feeling center of enneagram seemed to be more paranoid, impulsive, and hostile than those having instinctive center of enneagram. Conclusion : Enneagram could be applied to improve insights on their personality problems of alcohol dependence and promote recovery.
