A Study on the Effects of Shoulder Stability Exercise during 12 Weeks on Static Balance in Female Archers

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of shoulder stability exercise on improvement in maintaining the static balance of female archers. The change in acceleration 10 seconds after extending of each joint(left·right shoulder, left·right elbow, left·right wrist, left·right metacarpophalangeal joints and seventh thoracic vertebrae) between before exercise and after 12-week exercise was measured using a 3-axis accelerometer sensor targeting 16 female archers. Both an experimental group to which a shoulder stability exercise program was applied and a comparative group to which a core muscle exercise program was applied to showed the effect that the acceleration value of each joint decreased. It could be noted from this result that the 12-week shoulder stability exercise strengthened major muscles necessary for archers and thus the effect of improving the stability of shoulder joints showed as a positive response as the effect of core muscle exercise effective in enhancing the overall balance ability in the body. Therefore, in order to improve the ability of maintaining static balance for archers a shoulder stability exercise should be applied consistently in training guidance.
