The purpose of this study is to suggest a subdivision of the two types of telic events, achievements and accomplishments. One is the resultative, the lexical span of which extends to the resultant states after the final point of a telic event. The other is the eventive, which represents a telic event itself rather than the resultant states. As a result, the viewpoint aspects have different temporal schemata for telic events according to the subdivision made in this paper. In particular, the imperfective viewpoint aspect focuses on the internal stages or the preliminary stages of eventive telic events. On the other hand, for resultative telic events, the imperfective viewpoint aspect focuses on the resultant states after the final point of the events. Similar dichotomies observable in the English language are also discussed, such as passive/active, be-passive/get-passive, past/gerund participles, and the different meanings of English prepositions of place (i.e., position/destination).
