Differences between Alcoholic Schizophrenic Patients and Non-Alcoholic Schizophrenic Patients on Temperament and Character Inventory

Objectives：The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference between alcoholic schizophrenic patients and nonalcoholic schizophrenic patients on Temperament and Character Inventory profiles. Methods：We compared 47 alcoholic schizophrenic patients with 72 non-alcoholic schizophrenic patients. All subjects were assessed by demographic variables, GAF, PANSS, NAST, and TCI. Results：1) Alcoholic schizophrenic patients showed higher Novelty-Seeking scores than non-alcoholic schizophrenic patients. 2) Alcoholic schizophrenic patients have had more total number of hospitalization than non-alcoholic schizophrenic patients. Conclusion：The findings of this study suggest that alcoholic schizophrenic patients have higher Novelty-Seeking score than non-alcoholic schizophrenic patients. There exists similar temperament characteristic in patients with alcohol-related disorders between with and without schizophrenia.
