Personality Patterns of Internet Addiction

This study was to investigate the personality pattern and ways of coping in internet addiction. The authors performed 16 Personality Factors (PF) and the Ways of Coping Checklist to both internet addiction group and controls, and compared the results in two groups. The subjects of this study were 39 internet addictions and 37 normal controls. The results were as follows；1) The internet addiction group showed significantly lower stableness and sensitivity measures , and showed higher anxiety measure than controls in 16 PF. 2) The internet addiction group showed no difference in the Ways of Coping Checklist. It was suggested that internet addiction were characterized by anxiety-proneness, and passive and emotion-concentrated coping. This traits are supposed to be a state of constant emotional arousal and resultant physiological activation and produces internet addiction.
