지속가능발전 교육프로그램에 대한 비판적 고찰

A critical Reflection on Programme for ESD

이 연구는 지속가능발전교육에 대한 논의가 진행된 지 꽤 시간이 지났음에도 불구하고, 학교현장에서는 여전히 다른 교육과 구별되는 고유한 특성이 무엇인지에 대해 의문을 제기하고 있다는 문제의식에서 출발하였다. 이러한 문제의식에서 이 연구 는 지속가능발전교육의 고유성을 탐구하고, 그것을 준거로 지속가능발전 교육프로 그램을 검토해 보고자 하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지속가능발전교육의 고유성은 규범적 차원과 관계하고 있으며, 이러한 이해로부터 지속가능발전교육의 특성은 ‘연관적 사고’ 능력을 기르는데 있다. 둘째, 학교현장에서 실행되는 지속가능 발전 교육프로그램에서는 ‘연관적 사고’능력 형성이라는 관점보다는 실천적 역량습득이라는 관점이 더 우선적인 것처럼 보였다. 셋째, 지속가능발전교육의 고유한 특 성이 프로그램을 통해 구체화되지 못하는 이유는 지속가능발전의 규범적 차원과 실 천적 차원의 연관관계를 분명하게 드러내려는 시도가 우선되기보다는 어떻게 실행 할 것인가에 더 중점을 두고 있기 때문인 것으로 이해되었다. 넷째, ‘연관적 사고’능 력이 고려되지 않고 영역별로 요구되는 실천역량을 기르는 교육에 초점을 맞출 때 지속가능발전교육의 고유성은 여전히 모호해질 수 있다.

This study started from the awareness of the fact that the debate on education for sustainable development(ESD) has been going on for some time, but it still raises questions about the unique characteristics that distinguish it from other. The purpose of this study is to explore the unique characteristic of education for sustainable development, and to examine the program of ESD based on it. The results of the study are as follows. First, the uniqueness of ESD is related to the normative dimension. From this understanding, the characteristic of ESD is to develop interlinked thinking ability. Second, in the program of ESD implemented at the school site, it seemed that the view of acquiring practical capacity rather than the viewpoint of interlinked thinking capacity building seemed to be a priority. Third, the inherent characteristics of ESD can not be materialized through the program because more emphasis is placed on how to implement rather than prioritize the link between the normative dimension and the practical dimension of sustainable development. Fourth, the uniqueness of ESD may still be ambiguous when focusing on education that fosters the capacity for action that is required in each area rather than interlinked thinking .
