A Follow Up Study of Alcoholic Inpatients after Alcoholism Treatment Program

This study was performed to evaluate the outcome of Inpatient alcoholics and various clinical variables affecting recovery of alcoholism. The subjects of this study were 97 alcohol dependent patients who had been admitted to Uijongbu St. Mary’s Hospital between 2000 and 2001. The subjects were followed up by telephone interview, then we reviewed patient’s medical record to obtain data about sociodemographic characteristics, alcohol driking related varaibles and treatment process, etc. 1) Among 97 subjects, 62 (63.9%) patients were followed up. Twenty-six (41.93%) of followed patients were recovered. 2) Among followed patients, 17 (27.4%) patients attended to outpatients clinic, and 33 (53.2%) patients returned to work after discharge. 3) Sociodemgraphic characteristics and alcohol drinking related varibales were statistically nonsignificant between relapse and recovery groups. But, completion of alchoholism treatment program during admission and occupational functioning after dischage associated with recovery of alcoholism.
