부정극어 습득에 관한 연구

A Study on the Acquisition of Negative Polarity Items

This study investigates the result of participants’ NPI responses and checks the influence of the responses on second language acquisition. One hundred thirty eight Korean ESL students and one hundred sixty two Chinese KSL students took part in the experiments. In experiment 1, the participants produced more NPIs in object position than in subject position. In experiment 2, what is worth noting is that the EII (intermediate) group produced more NPIs than the EIII (advanced) group in both subject (MNS) and object(MNO) position. In experiment 3, the KSL learners in all the groups produced more NPIs in object position than in subject position. Interesting findings here were that other NPIs such as hanato and amwusalamto were used instead of Korean NPI (amwuto), compared to English NPI (any ). Another interesting point to note is that the KSL groups produced much more relative clauses than the ESL groups did in both subject and object position.
