Financial Performance Analysis of Port Authority

본 연구는 국제화 전략이 항만공사의 재무성과에 미치는 영향력을 검토하기 위해 경영지표 계측을 통한 성과 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 유동비율, 부채비율, 영업비용 방어기간, 자기자본순이익율, 매출액순이익률, 부실율의 6가지 경영지표의 비교분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과 해외 PA들의 재무성과가 더욱 우수한 것으로 나타났는데, 그 원인으로 해외 PA들의 국제화 전략이라고 판단된다. 해외 항만공사는 국내 항만공사에 비해 적극적으로 다양한 국제화 사업을 추진해 왔으며, 해외항만개발, 해외항만 지분매입, GTO 활동 강화 등이 그 실례이다. 실제로 PSA, DPW, 로테르담 항만공사, 함부르크 항만공사의 경영지표들은 국제화 사업이 활발하게 추진되었던 2010년 이후 지속적으로 개선되고 있는데 이는 국제화 전략이 해당 PA의 경영성과를 개선시키고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 국내 PA들도 국내 활동에 전념하기보다는 해외항만개발, 해외항만지분매입, GTO 활동 강화 등 보다 적극적으로 해외 비즈니스 전략을 수립할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 항만공사의 국제화 전략을 수립하는 데 많은 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate how much internationalization of PA can make positive effect on financial performance of PA. Research design, data, methodology : This study employed financial data of four domestic PAs (BPA, IPA, UPA, YGPA) and four foreign PAs (PSA, DPW, Rotterdam PA, Hamburg PA) for the years 2011-2015. Moreover, this study calculated six financial indicators such as the liquidity ratio, the debt ratio, the operating cost protection period, the ratio of net income to stockholders’ equity, the ratio of net profit to net sales, and the defect rate. Results : Most of six indicators showed that financial situations in foreign PAs are stabler than those in domestic PAs. Conclusions : Foreign PAs have tried to participate in overseas business actively, while Korean PAs simply have concentrated on domestic activities to improve their seaborne trade performance. However, foreign PAs like PSA and DPW are now implementing various internationalization strategies including direct port operation at abroad as GTO (Global Terminal Operator) and equity investment to overseas port. Thus, this study concludes that PAs internationalization strategy will play a significant role in financial performance and protect themselves from financial crisis effectively.
