A teaching and learning model using autobiography writing is developed and applied in classroom environment with the purpose of building character for those students in a specialized high school many of whom had maladaptation problems in both learning and living. This research analyzed various questionnaires about Autobiography Writing that has an effect on high school students writing pattern and personality. Autobiography writing was found to have great potential as a means for students to continually review their lives and thus to grow by offering students opportunities to acknowledge changes in themselves through writings in adolescent period. When character building is defined as all process to teach and foster a student to realize his identity and to respect it, and to enable him to live in community with harmonious relations with others, the two teaching and learning models as are suggested by the author - the periodic autobiography writing model and the topical autobiography writing model - are proved to be very effective for character building. Since this research analyzed data collected from a particular group, conclusions may differ according to the size of student groups, students developmental states, students backgrounds and class atmosphere, and teacher s attitude. However, when we consider that this research was carried out on maladjusted teenagers, we can safely conclude that autobiography writing in teenage will give us a good understanding of teenagers who are in the middle of self-realization and the establishment of self-identity.
