정도전의 ≷금남잡영≸(錦南雜詠) 연구

Study on Geumnamjapyeong(錦南雜詠) by Jeong, Do-Jeon(鄭道傳)

본고는 정도전(鄭道傳, 1342∼1398) 의 ≷금남잡영≸(錦南雜詠)에 수록된 시편에 대한 연구이다. ≷금남잡영≸은 정도전의 나주 유배기 시집이다. 정도전 문학 연구의 진전을 꾀하기 위해서는 ‘연대기적 접근’이 필요하다고 판단된 다. 정도전은 여말선초의 격동기를 산인물로 그 삶 역시 굴곡이 매우 심하기 때문이다. 이런 문제의식 하에 본고는 ≷금남잡영≸에 주목한다. 나주 유배는 정도전이 신진 사대부로서 처음 겪은 정치적 시련이다. 본고는 ≷금남잡영≸ 을 통해 그 첫 유배기 정도전의 내면세 계를 더듬어 보려는 시도이다. ≷금남잡영≸은 현재 실물이 남아 있지 않고, 대신 ≷삼봉집≸(三峰集)에 그흔적을 남기고 있다. 본고는 ≷삼봉집≸ 을 토대로 ≷금남잡영≸을 재구성하는 것으로부터 논의를 시작한다. 그 기초 작업을 토대로 본고는 본격적인 작품 분석을 한다. 정도전은 앞날을 기약할수 없는 유배객으로서 낯선 장소에 유폐되었다. 따라서 극도의 절망감과 불안감이 ≷금남잡영≸의 주된 정서를 이룬다. 삶에 대한 철학적 성찰은 자신의 고통을 객관화하는 ‘인식의 확장’을 가져왔다. 그러나 정도전은 불확실한 미래에 대한 불안감을 결국 떨칠 수 없었 고, 다시 깊은 절망에 빠져야 했다. 이것이 ‘시인 정도전’의 복합적인 내면세 계이다. 이런 정도전에게 벗의 존재가큰 힘이 되었다. 자신과 같이 유배형에 처해진 벗들과의 동지적 유대 속에서 정도전은 고통 속에서 신진 사대부로 서의 정신 자세를 가다듬었다. 또한 유배기의 다양한 교유는 기쁨과 위안과 생활상의 도움을 주었다. 이런 면면은 그의 사상적‧정치적 논설보다는 시작 품을 통해 섬세하게 접근해 들어갈 수있다. 요컨대 본고는 정도전에 대한 사상 적‧역사적‧정치적‧철학적 접근으로는 규명할 수 없는, 문학적 접근을 통해서만 가 닿을 수 있는 미묘하고 내밀한 지점에 닿아보기 위한 것이다.

I explore the poems included in Geumnamjapyeong(錦南雜詠) by Jeong, Do-Jeon(鄭道傳, 1342~1398). Geumnamjapyeong is a collection of poems written during the period of banishment in Naju(羅州). Chronological approach to Jeong s literary works is indispensable to develope the study on Jeong s literature. Jeong lived during the period of late Koryo and early Choseon, a period of political ferment. Therefore, with regard to the development of his oeuvre, it is significant to examine his works in a diachronical way, in keeping with ups and downs over the course of his life. That is why I pay attention to Geumnamjapyeong. It was the first political hardship for Jeong to be banished in Naju. This study is intended to investigate delicately the inner world of Naju period s Jeong. Though Geumnamjapyeong does not remain, it is possible to find some traces remained in Sambongjip(三峰集). For that reason, this study begins with the reconstruction of Geumnamjapyeong based on the clues that can be found in Sambongjip. And then I analyze the poems included in Geumnamjapyeong. The discussion of Jeong’s poems accentuates two aspects. First, the intersection of despair and hope. Second, a sense of fellowship and association. Jeong was banished in the unfamiliar area as a prisoner who could not see into the future. Therefore, the extreme despair and anxiety is the basic sentiment of the poems included in Geumnamjapyeong. However, he was not overwhelmed with grief. He acquired a broader insight to the life and objectified his anguish through the philosophical speculation. And he could straighten his mental attitude as a Confucian intellect in the bond with his political friends. These aspects can not be examined through studies on Jeong s philosophical and political writings, but can be examined delicately through studies on Jeong s poems.
