The Chinese names for the four tones were borrowed to indicate these tones, but these four names should not be interpreted as referring to Chinese tones. The author is of the opinion that the long is actually in an intermediate position between high and low, and that seems to appear in long vowels in Seoul dialect. The low and high pitches are retained in the dialects of Kyongsang provinces.
