The complete works of Ko Ung-ch’ok, Tugok-chip(杜谷集), going back to the 1600s, were recently discovered. The author urges the ethical life largely along the Jines of Great Leaning(大學) in the twenty-eight sijo contained in the collection. Five of these sijo are the chang sijo(長時調) type, upsetting the long-held theory that it is an eighteenth century genre. The anthology under study has considerable light to throw on the evolution of the chang sijo.
