식민지기 조선 촌부의 비/가시화 * – 친밀성 범죄와 여성범죄에 관한 메타적 성찰

The (In/)Visibility of Countrywomen In Colonial Korea: Reflecting on Crimes of Intimacy and Female Crimes

식민지기 신문 매체와 서사에 나타난 친밀성 범죄 특히 본부살해를 둘러싼 인식론적 지층을 검토하고 본부살해범으로 호명된 조선 촌부의 복원 가능성을 가늠해보았다. 본부살해, 독부, 소부, 독살 등의 표제어를 사용하는 본부살해 관련 기사에서 남편을 살해한 여성범죄자는 대개 빈농가 촌부였는데, 그들이 역설적으로 자신의 이름을 발견하는 것은 범죄자로 호명되는 자리에서였다. 친밀성 관계에서 발생하는 것임에도 여성범죄는 당대 서사물에서 여성의 성적 욕망과의 관련성 속에서 다루어지고 친밀성 폭력 문제는 뚜렷하게 가시화되기 않았다. 이러한 검토를 통해 여성범 죄론과 근대적 지식이 만들어낸 여성에 대한 인식틀이 일상과 문화 차원에서 폭넓게 유포되는 장면 즉 여성에 대한 특화되고 편향된 시각이 어떻게 여성을 (비)가시화했는가를 짚어보고자 했다. 결과적으로 본부살해론의 담론적 수행성이, 촌부 여성을 ‘임신과 출산을 위한 생식하는 몸’으로 가시화하고 빈농 촌부의 여성노동의 측면을 비가사화하면서 구현되고 있었음을 확인했다. 아울러 이 과정에 당대 서사물이 관여하고 기여한 바를 환기했으며, 식민지기 조선 농촌의 현실을 포착하고 촌부의 일상을 고발한 당대 서사물에 대한 재독의 필요성을 요청했다.

This article examines intimate crimes from an epistemological perspective, with a focus on “husband murder” and the way they were reported by the print media and the narrative built around them in colonial Korea. It draws attention to the possibility of the reconstruction of countrywomen’s image as “husband murder.” The female criminals whose crimes and identities were described by the print media with keywords and nicknames such as “husband murder”, “femme fatale”, “little bride”, and “killing by poison” were mainly countrywomen of low social standing who lived on the margins of society. Some of these countrywomen only saw their name and existence acknowledged when the judge sentenced them in court. This research revealed that the performability of the husband murders’ discourse was realized after countrywomen became visualized or “invisualized” as “bodies for pregnancy and childbirth only.” This reminds us that the narrative of colonial Korea was involved in and contributed to this process. This therefore calls for a re-reading of the narratives surrounding the reality of country life to reveal the daily routine of countrywomen in colonial Korea.
