한국 고전소설의 전등신화 수용 연구 * - 전기소설과 몽유록을 중심으로 -

A Study on Korean Classical Novels’ Acceptance of Jeondeungsinhwa

이 글은 한국의 전기소설과 몽유록을 중심 으로 하여, 한국 고전소설의 전등신화 수용 양상을 살펴본 것이다. 본론에서는 우선 전 등신화의 영향을 받은 작품들의 현황을 파악 하되, 선행 연구에서 언급된 부분들은 가급적 제외하였다. 그 결과 설공찬전 하생기우전 운영전 동선기 하생몽유록 강도 몽유록 달천몽유록 포의교집 김영철전 삼한습유 삼해지 등의 소설이 전등 신화를 수용한 지점들을 새롭게 논하였다. 다음으로 전등신화 수용의 사적 전개 양상을 살펴보았는데, 한국 고전소설의 전등 신화 수용 국면은 17세기를 기준으로 하여세 시기로 구분된다. 첫째 시기는 15~16세기 로서, 이 시기를 대표하는 소설은 금오신화 이다. 김시습은 금오신화의 주요 서사 단락 과 화소들을 가능한 한 전등신화의 자장 안에 묶어두려 했는데, 이는 독자들로 하여금 전등신화를 통해 금오신화를 독해하도록 유도함으로써 궁극적으로는 우의를 읽어 내도록 하기 위한 서사 전략이었다. 둘째 시기인 17세기에는 금오신화와 같은 방식으로 전등신화를 수용한 소설은 더 이상 창작되지 않았고, 전등신화의 영향도 이전 시기에 비해 감소하였다. 17세기는 한국 고전소 설이 우리 나름의 독자적 전통을 수립해 나간 시기였던바, 전등신화는 한국소설로는 금오신화와 기재기이 이외에 뚜렷한 성과가 없었던 당시에 소설 작가들이 작품 창작에 참조할 수 있었던 훌륭한 텍스트였던 것이다. 셋째 시기는 17세기 이후이다. 이 시기에는 이전 시기보다 소설 작자와 독자 사이에 전등신화에 대한 지식이 더욱 보편화 되었고, 전등신화의 향유 계층도 확대되었 으며, 이에 따라 전등신화의 독서 경험 역시 한문소설과 국문소설 모두에서 확인된다. 조선 시대 전등신화의 유통에서 특히 주목 할 것은 전등신화구해인데, 특히 전등신 화구해의 주석들은 조선 후기 소설 작자들의 소설 창작에 있어서 큰 도움을 주었을 것으로 여겨진다.Jeondeungsinhwa is found both in Sino-Korean novels and in Korean novels.

This thesis examines aspects of Korean classical novels’ acceptance of Jeondeungsinhwa, laying stress on Korean Jeon-gi novels and mong-yurok. The acceptance phase of Jeondeungsinhwa in Korean classical novels can be divided into three time periods - before, during, and after the 17th century. The first period is between the 15th and 16th century, and Geumosinhwa is a literary work that represents this period. Gim Siseup attempted to keep Geumosinhwa’s major narrative paragraphs and motifs within the boundary of Jeondeungsinhwa, which was a narrative strategy primarily intended to help readers understand the allegory behind the piece by leading them to read Geumosinhwa through the frame of Jeondeungsinhwa. In the 17th century, which is the second period, no additional novels were written that accepted Jeondeungsinhwa in the same way as Geumosinhwa. Also, the influence of Jeondeungsinhwa decreased compared to that in the earlier period. The 17th century was a time period in which Korean classical novels established their own traditions and Jeondeungsinhwa was a brilliant piece of work that novel writers could refer to at the time, when there were no distinguished accomplishments in Korean novels apart from Geumosinhwa and Gijaegii. The third period is the time after the 17th century. During this period, knowledge about Jeondeungsinhwa became more common between novel writers and readers, and the class of people who enjoyed Jeondeungsinhwa increased in number; as a result, reading experience of
