We often say that the three factors of shipping business are vessel(asset), crew (operation) and cargo(market). In the view of these three factors, we would like to insist that the reconstruction of the Korean shipping business since the independence from Japan in 1945 was the process of creating of everything from nothing. Because it is clear that we had not almost anything of the aforesaid three factors at the beginning of the Korean shipping business. It is not too much to say that it is a miracle that the current Korea has become one of the leading countries in the world shipping. The purpose of this paper is the finding of the cause of development of Korea shipping business through some moments, namely the establishment and disappearance of the Korea Shipping Corporation(dae-han hae-un gong-sa), the small and medium shipping companies in the early days of the independent Korea, the roles of the manpower of crews in the Korean shipping business, the problems of the right of the transportation of crude oil, the Hyundai Heavy and Shipbuilding Co. and Asia Shipping Co. and the big four of container carriers, etc. We made efforts to find that how t hey have secured vessels, crews and cargoes and what companies have established and disappeared.
