In his age, the territory of Former Ch in reached Central Asia to the north and bordered on Goguryo to the south, which made the direct trade between two countries possible. Fu Jian of Former Ch in learned Confucianism from the age of eight and accepted it as a political ideology like other kings of Han race. However, he also needed the supernatural power of Buddhism in case of war. As a result, he actively received Buddhism.
