Total Factor Productivity (TFP) is measured by the ratio of output to single or multi-factor inputs and is useful for investing economic efficiency and technological changes. Traditionally, TFP is determined by changes in technology and input factors. According to globalization, international trade is also an important factor affecting TFP. This paper aims to analyze the relationship between agricultural exports and agricultural TFP in major agricultural exporting countries. To investigate this relationship, this paper utilized panel data of the Cairns group from 1992 to 2013 and constructed the augmented productivity growth equation which includes agricultural TFP (as the dependent variable) and the independent variables of agricultural exports, capital, real GDP, and dummy variables of trade openness. The main finding of this paper shows that agricultural exports in major exporting countries influence positively agricultural TFP. Moreover, this paper suggests that investments and technological development in agriculture are also important factors enhancing agricultural TFP.
