Marital Violence and Child Abuse

부부폭력 문제는 부부간의 영향을 미치는 것으로 끝나는 것이 아니라 자녀에게도 심각한 영향을 미친다. 부모들의 폭력을 목격하거나 혹은 폭력을 당하는 경우, 아동의 성장과 발달 및 이후 성인기에 이르기까지 영향을 미칠 수 있는 것이다. 이러한 관점에서, 본 연구는 부부폭력과 아동학대의 상호연관성을 밝혀보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 1997년 전국 1523가구를 조사한 가적폭력 조사 자료 가운데 자녀가 있는 가정을 뽑아 분석하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 첫째, 아내를 구타하는 남편은 아동을 동시에 학대하였다. 둘째, 남편에게 폭력을 사용하는 아내 역시 아동학대를 행사하는 경향을 보였다. 셋째, 부부간에 상호폭력을 행사하는 경우, 부모 모두 자녀에게 높은 폭력성을 보였다. 그러나 어머니의 경우, 남편의 폭력에 대한 반응적, 이차적 폭력으로 아동을 학대하는 것으로 보여진다. 결론적으로 부부폭력은 아동학대와 밀접한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Marital violence can affect not only dyadic relationship but also children. If children witness marital violence or experience violence directly, it can impact on their growth, development and even adulthood. In this viewpoint, this study are to examine the interrelationship between marital violence and child abuse. This study analyzed households with children out of 1997 the Korean National Family Violence Survey on 1523 households. Study findings are as follows: first, husbands who use violence towards wives abuse children as well. Second, wives who use violence towards husbands also tend to abuse children. Third, both husbands and wives experiencing mutual violence show high level of aggression towards children. However, wives can abuse children as responsive and second violence to wife abuse. In conclusion, it is disclosed that marital violence and child abuse have the close interrelationship.
