Introduction of Evidence-Based Practice(EBP) in social work: a consideration on benefits of implementing EBP in Korea

본 논문은 근거중심 사회복지실천(Evidence-Based Practice in Social Work 또는 Evidence-Based Social Work)을 소개함을 목적으로 한다. 근거중심 사회복지실천이란 사회복지 사가 클라이언트의 문제를 다루는 개입과정에서 최선의 의사결정을 하기 위해 해당 분야의 성과연구를 비롯한 연구결과 등 과학적인 근거를 검토하고 평가한 뒤 개별 클라이언트의 상황을 고려하여 적용하는 과정이자 실천에 대한 철학이다. 근거중심 사회복지실천의 발생과 주요 구성요소 및 원리, 근거중심 사회복지실천의 실행 일곱 단계를 알아본다. 한국의 사회복지계가 처한 상황을 고려하여 근거중심 사회복지실천의 필요성과 유익성을 논하며 이의 정착을 위해 선행되어야 할 부분들을 사회복지하계 연구 풍토와 사회복지 교육법의 전환, 연구결과의 테이터 베이스화 노력을 위주로 살펴본다.

The purpose of this article is to introduce Evidence-Based Practice(EBP) in Social Work. EBP in social work is defined as a philosophy as well as a process where social work practitioners adopt. It involves placing the client’s benefits first, searching objectively and efficiently for the current best evidence relative to solving the client’s problem, and taking appropriate action guided by evidence, the client’s preference, and the social work practitioner’s clinical expertise. The evolution of EBP, its key elements and principles, and barriers of applying EBP in the field are discussed. Considering current situations where Korean social workers find themselves, the author argues that there are evolving reasons for implementing EBP in Korea. The strategies to advance EBP in social work are addressed in three ways: practice-based research in social work research, databases for social work practitioners, education and training for EBP in social work.
