고령화사회에서 노인의 시간사용과 역할에 관한 연구

A Study on Time Use and Roles of the Older Adults in Aging Society

본 연구는 고령화사회에 있어서의 노인역할 정립을 위한 기초 작업으로서 오늘날 우리사회에서의 노인들의 역할을 그들의 시간사용과 연관시켜 탐색했다. 본 연구는 첫째, 연령대에 따른 우리나라 사람들의 시간사용 패턴을 Rosow의 역할 유형에 대비시켜서 Rosow의 역할유형에 관한 가설이 오늘 날 우리사회 노년기의 역할 변화에도 적용되는지 분석하였고, 둘째, 성별에 따른 노인들의 역할유형 차이 여부와 함께, 그 차이를 야기 시키는 요인들에 대해서 보다 깊이 탐색하였다. 통계청의 ‘2004 생활시간조사’를 원자료로 하여 6428명의 60세 이상 여성노인과 4480명의 남성노인이 주 분석대상이 된 본 연구를 통해 제도적 역할, 희박한 역할, 비공식적 역할에 대한 Rosow의 가설이 우리나라 노인들의 역할변화에도 적용되는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 우리나라 노인들에게 있어서 역할 유형의 차이를 일으키는 주요 요인은 성별, 월평균소득, 연령 등이었으며, 전통적 성역할에 대한 인식은 유의미한 설명력을 가지지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. Rosow의 역할유형 중 특히 제도적 역할에 있어서 성별이 차지하는 비중이 높이 나타났는데 여성노인들에 비해서 역할지지를 받지 못하고 있는 남성노인들의 삶에 활기를 찾아 주기 위해서 남성노인들의 비공식적 역할을 증가시켜 주어야 할 정책적 필요성을 제시하였다.

This study explored the roles of the older adults in Korea today, for the purpose of presenting normative roles of the older adults in the aging society. This study, using the data of “2004 Time Use Survey”, firstly explored if Rosow’s hypothesis on the change of the roles of the older adults applicable to that of Koreans, by means of connecting time use with roles of the older adults. Secondly, this study explored several variables including gender causing differentials among institutional, tenuous, and informal roles of the older adults. The results of this study supports Rosow’s hypothesis applicable in Korea, though there is a limitation that this investigator’s subjectivity could not but included processing this study. The result of the regression shows that female older adults participates in the institutional roles much more actively compared to male older adults.
