Minimality 와 economy condition

Chomsky’s(l986b) Minimality produces a disparity of applictions because it is relevant to only government. It is asymmetric in that an intervening potential head governor blocks head and antecedent government, whereas an intervining potential antecedent governor does not have any blocking capacity. Rizzi’s(1989) Relativized Minimality has a merit of solving Chomsky’s(986b) problems, but the identirication requirement of trace is disjunctive because it is defined as antecedent government or binding. To solve these problems, I propose that all traces must satisfy the proper head governmemt requirement based on an economy principle and the economy condition on chain. The proper head government is defined as follows : X is properly head governed iff X is head governed by a head with V-features and the proper governor is the closest head from X. The economy condition on chain is defined as “Minimize chain links”.
