작곡전공 음대생들의 20세기 음악 학습과 진로선택에 대한 인식

A Study on Composition Major College Students Perception of Studying 20th Century Music and Career Decision

본 연구의 목적은 음악대학 작곡과 학생들의 20세기 음악 학습에 대한 인식과 이에 따른 이들의 진로선택을 파악하는 것이다. 이를 위해 국내 8개 음악대학 작곡과 3, 4학년에 재학 중인 학생 211명을 대상으로 설문조사 하였으며 6명의 작곡과 교수와 강사를 인터뷰하였다. 설문결과는 SPSS 18.0 프로그램으로 통계분석 하였으며 인터뷰 결과는 내용분석(content analysis)방법을 통하여 분석하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 작곡전공 학생들은 대학입학 전 대학입시의 영향으로 조성음악 을 학습하였으며 20세기 음악을 학습한 학생들은 매우 적었다. 둘째, 학생들의 20세기 음악에 대한 인식은 흥미도, 이해도, 20세기 음악관련 교육과정에 대한 만족도 모두 보통정도인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 대부분의 학생들은 희망하는 진로의 종류와 상관없이 20세기 음악 학습이 자신들의 진로에 영향을 미친다고 인식하고 있었다. 넷째, 20세기 음악학습에 대한 흥미도, 이해도가 높은 학생들이 전문 작곡가를 희망하는 성향을 보였다. 다섯째, 진로를 결정하지 못한 학생들과 작곡가를 희망하며 입학했으나 현재 희망하지 않는 학생들은 20세기 음악 학습에 대한 인식이 전반적으로 낮은 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 결과는 우리나라 작곡가 학생들의 20세기 음악 학습을 보다 향상시기 위한 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the perception of studying 20th century music and career decision of composition major college students. The study also aims to provide the information for improvement of the curriculum of composition departments. Survey was conducted with 211 composition majors who are 3rd and 4th year college students of 8 universities located in Seoul, Korea. In addition, 6 professors of composition major were interviewed. The results of the study are as follow. Most of the composition major students could not study 20th century music before they entered into college because they needed to prepare for the entrance audition of the colleges which is mainly about tonal music composition. Composition major students perception including interest, understanding, and satisfaction of 20th century music was just above the average. Considerable number of subjects replied that their interest and understanding of 20th century music are not good. About half of the subjects replied that their interest and understanding got better thanks to studying 20th century music in the college although their interest and understanding were poor when they first came to the college. Most of the students believe that studying 20th century music is influential to their career decision. Students who could not decide their career and changed their career from composer to other career replied that the difference of the study before and after the college entrance was the main reason.
