Linguistic Competence as a Intermediate Goal of Foreign Language Education

This study aims at finding out some problems in nowadays foreign language education particularly in high school. Through the investigation of the sixth foreign language education curriculum this study finds out one of the most serious problems in it overlooking the importance of the acquisition of the linguistic competence, so suggests one proposal the establishment of the intermediate goal in English education. In my view, while the acquisition of the communicative competence is the supreme goal in language learning, to reach it is too far in our foreign language education circumstances. So it needs the establishment of the intermediate goal to reach the highest goal. That is the acquisition of the linguistic competence in Chomsky’s sense. And certainly such an intermediate goal and an evaluation on it will improve foreign language education especially English teaching and learning in our high school.
