Outdoor education is included as an official curriculum at schools abroad, but in Korea it has not been developed yet as an official school curriculum on a national level. Therefore, there is an absence of education-related goal, vision, and moreover pedagogical understanding and methodology are not fully provided on a wider basis. Now is the critical moment to establish a study defined as Outdoor Education as a separate academic study. This paper is aimed at introducing the current status of Outdoor Education in Korea and in developed countries such as USA, Canada, UK, and Germany as there are very few local experts on Outdoor Education, and at the same time contributes to popularization of Outdoor Education.
