다문화 그림책을 활용한 교육활동이 인종 및 타문화에 대한 유아의 태도에 미치는 영향

The Effect of the Educational Activity with Multicultural Picture Books on Children s Attitude for Race and Other Cultures

본 연구에서는 유아들에게 실제적이고 유익하다고 생각되어지는 다문화 그림책을 활용한 다문화 교육활동이 다문화 시대에 살고 있는 유아들에게 인종과 타문화에 대한 이해를 돕고, 다양한 인종과 문화를 서로 존중할 수 있는 시민적 자질을 길러주는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 2010년 8월부터 2010년 10월 초까지 진행하였으며, 연구대상은 충남 천안시에 소재한 J유치원의 만 5세 학급의 유아 33명(실험집단 17명, 통제집단 16명)이었다. 본 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다문화 그림책을 활용한 교육활동은 유아의 인종에 대한 태도와 인종 선정이유에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 다문화 그림책을 활용한 교육활동은 유아들에게 다양한 인종 및 나라에 관심을 갖게 하여 인종에 대한 편견을 감소시키는 것으로 생각된다. 둘째, 다문화 그림책을 활용한 교육활동은 타문화 선정이유와 타문화 인지에도 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 다문화 그림책을 활용한 교육활동은 통해 유아들에게 다양한 문화에 대해 깊이 탐색하고 경험해 보게함으로써 여러 나라의 문화에 대해 다양하고 구체적인 관심을 갖게 하였으며 그 결과로 타문화 인지에도 긍정적인 영향을 준 것으로 생각된다.

The purpose of this research was to investigate if there was some effect of children s attitude toward other cultures that if they got a series of educational activity with multicultural picture books. This research was carried out from August, 2010 to October, 2010. The participants were age 5 children at J kindergarten and the number of participants was 33 (17 for the experimental group and 16 for the control group). The research tool was adopted from the research of Park Seong Yeon (2001) and Shin Hyeon Kyeong (2006) for the investigation of racial bias and partially from the research of Park Seong Yeon (2001) and Choi An Bok (2008). To guarantee the validity and reliability of the adopted tool, it was assessed by two experts of child education and four teachers who have educational experience more than five years. The 10 picture books showing a variety of multicultural perspective of many countries were selected from 28 picture books analyzed by Jeong Ji Hyeon and Park Seon Mee (2009), and Banks (2008) on the basis of five area and goal of multicultural education. The frequency test and chi-square test were done to know the difference between two groups, and the score of pre and post experiment with t-test was analyzed to understand the effect of experiment in this research. SPSS 18.0 was used for the analysis of the data. The result was summarized as follows: (1) the activity with multicultural picture books was beneficial to the attitude of children for race because it motivated children to have a variety of cultural interests and finally it helped them to decrease the racial bias of children. (2) this kind of multicultural activity with picture books were positive for the understanding of other culture. It made children feel more interested and own various views toward other countries through picture books.
