A Study of the Operator’s Scattery Dose While Performing the Colon Study Using Radiophotoluminescent Glass Rod Detector (GRD)

Purpose : We studed the operator’s scattery dose while performing the colon study using Radiophotoluminescent Glass Rod Detector(GRD). Materials and Methods : We recorded scatter ray dose during the colon study. Term is from January 6th day 2008vto January 23th day 2008. We used Fluoroscopy system(Shimavision 3200HG; over tube unit, SID:110cm, Image intensifier’s size: 12inch), GRD(Dose Ace’s small detector; model: GD-352M, leader: FGD-1000, Asahi Technology Glass Corporation) and 0.5mmPb Apron(Burkhart Roentgen corporation). Scatter ray’s average was checked by GRD at opertator’s right eye(A), thyroid protector(in,B and out,C), genital gland protector(in,D and out,E). It was compared with chest PA projection dose. Results : Scatter ray in BaSO₄ Study was measured on the average 654.SμGy(A), 28.9μGy(B), 526.2μGy(C), 12.0μ Gy(D) and 356.4μGy(E). Scatter ray in Gastrografin Study was measured on theaverage 708.lμGy(A), 29.SμGy(B), 624.lμGy(C), 17.3μGy(D), 413.5μGy(E). It represent that scatter ray decrease the more long distance from X-ray tube. Apron and thyroid protector was available of radiation protect about 95% at every measurement site. Operator’s dose while performing the colon study once all most equal to patient’s dose when performing chest X-ray 5 times. Conclusion : Radio- technologist must consider about radiation protection’s 3 principle that are the fluoroscopy time, distance, shielding. Radiation- related workers have to menage personal radiation dose thoroughly and effort to minimize radiation dose constantly.
