A Consideration on Simple Radiography Effective for Hamate Hook Fracture

Purpose : As racket sports have been recently popular, hamate hook fracture has frequently occurred. As the case stands this study is to ascertain which simple radiography is effective for hamate hook fracture. Materials and Method: On patients with carpal injuries who were admitted to the emergency room, simple radiography was performed from the anteroposterior view, the lateral view, the both oblique view, the carpal tunnel view and the cup view, respectively. The cup view indicates what the patient cups the hand while undergoing radiography, and in this case the CR angle is applied to cephalad side. On this wise, patients with hamate hook fracture were analytically compared with the normal in radiological depiction in order to simple radiography effective for hamate hook fracture. Results : It was ascertained which simple radiography is most effective to depict the hamate bone, as above. From the anteroposterior view, the lateral view and the both oblique view, the hamate bone and the carpal bone seemed to be observed. But from the carpal tunnel view and the cup view, the hamate bone was well depicted. In the case of patients with harnate hook fracture, the cup view was more effective than the carpal tunnel view because it was difficult for them to take the posture. Conclusion : In this study it was found that hamate hook fracture was depicted best in cases where simple radiography was performed from the cup view. In addition, the simple posture was effective to mitigate patients’ pains, to prevent them from moving while undergoing radiography, and to enhance the quality of radiographic images.
