Development and Validation of Internet Usage Need Scale for Youth

본 연구는 청소년들이 인터넷을 사용하는 욕구를 측정하기에 적절한 척도를 개발하고 타당화 하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 문헌연구와 기존에 개발된 관련 검사, 인터넷을 사용하는 9명의 청소년의 심층면담 결과를 토대로 총 10 개의 요인과 93개의 예비 문항을 개발하였다. 다음으로 16년 9~10월에 두 차례 걸쳐 예비조사를 진행하였다. 청소년 229명을 대상으로 1차 예비조사를 실시하여 안면타당도 검증 결과를 바탕으로 수정하였으며, 2차 예비조사에는 청소년 290명을 대상으로 실시하여 탐색적 요인분석을 통해 총 35문항이 본조사 문항으로 개발되었다. 개발된 검사에 대한 본 조사는 17년 6~9월에 617명의 청소년들을 대상으로 이루어졌으며, 이에 대해 탐색적 요인분석과 확인적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 최종 개발된 청소년 인터넷 사용 욕구 검사는 10개 요인(온라인 관계형성, 새로운 자기경험, 현실친구소속인정, 스트레스 해소, 괜찮은 자기 확인, 정서표현, 재미, 생각과 의견 표현, 게임조작 성취, 정보습득), 35개 문항이며, 적절한 신뢰도와 변별타당도, 구인타당도가 검증되었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 검사의 의의와 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

We should not regard youths’ Internet use only as a problem but should also understand the positive aspects of the behavior. This study aimed to understand the need of youths to use the Internet and to develop and validate an Internet Usage Need Scale with which to measure such needs. Toward this end, 10 factors and 93 preliminary questions were developed based on the results of literature review, previously developed related scales. and in-depth interview with nine adolescents who use the Internet. The preliminary surveys were conducted on 229 adolescents and revised based on the results of face validity testing with six experts. Based on exploratory factor analysis of the second preliminary survey with 290 adolescents, 10 factors and 35 questions were developed as the main version. The main survey with the developed scale was conducted among 617 adolescents, and the results were analyzed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The finally developed Internet Usage Need Scale consists of 10 factors(online relationship, new self experience, belonging and acceptance. stress reduction, good self identification, emotion expression, fun, thought expression, accomplishment in game, and information gathering) and 35 questions, which were verified for resonable reliability, criterion validity, and construct validity. Finally, the significance of the developed scale and proposed future studies were discussed.
